Trimming and Felling
Trimming : instructed portions of a tree are removed. Rope-only(no spikes) climbing is performed to access and trim healthy trees, as spiking into a tree damages it.
Felling : cutting down a full tree or its delimbed spar(trunk). If safe and clear, the entire tree can be dropped. If not safe, the tree should be dissected into pieces to bring down more carefully.
Bucking : cutting the delimbed trunk into sections after it's felled. Some request these cuts so they can produce firewood or for milling.
Rigging and Speedlines
Rigging : the process of guiding limbs and chunks to the ground strategically using ropes and slings. Limbs can also be hinged and swung away from obstacles below, to a safer drop zone.
Speedlines : used when there is a need to zip the cut limbs away to a safer or more convenient drop zone, if obstacles are under the tree canopy.
These processes are used where structures, decks, fences, gardens, septic lines, or landscaping must be protected under a tree being worked on.
Clean Up / Removal
Clean-up option impacts overall cost. Below are the clean-up options from lowest to highest cost:
- Leave everything where it lands
- partial clean-up
- full clean-up
Some choose to do the clean up work themselves to reduce the job price. Some want firewood or choose to dispose of the tree parts later. Others choose a full clean-up/haul-away option.

When you are ready, using your phone, message a picture that depicts the scale of the tree(s) in question, and Leaf Away will reply.
Best done by having a building, human, vehicle, wheelbarrow or some recognizable object in the photo that relates the scale of the tree.
A visit to your property can be scheduled after receiving your picture, and we may be able to discuss ball-park cost before coming out.
